Could Ghostbusters 3 be coming back to life? It appears so, as Dan Aykroyd stated that the script for the third movie is being written right now! Yes, like, right now! While it would be great for it to happen, but does that mean Bill Murray has signed on to finally do it?
The original Ghostbusters was released in 1984 and became a huge hit. There was some awesome chemistry between the three lead actors: Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. They did a sequel in 1989, but Ghostbusters 2 did not fare as well at the box office as the original. Most sequels don't, right? However, it was not a terrible showing and always left the door open for a third installment with the original cast.
However, Murray has always been the steadfast holding it back. He hasn't agreed to do a new installment, but he did make a cameo in the 2016 all-female version. So, maybe he is changing his tune on Ghostbusters 3?
Possibly, as Aykroyd appeared on AXS TV's The Big Interview with Dan Rather and he talked about the prospect of the sequel happening. While it seemed like it was dead in the water before, that may no longer be the case. He said, “There is a possibility of a reunion with the three remaining Ghostbusters… It’s being written right now."
Before when Aykroyd talked about the original cast reuniting for the project, he mentioned maybe making it into a series for Netflix. Now it seems like a Ghostbusters 3 movie could be in the works, but it would never be a full cast reunion, as Ramis passed away in 2014. However, a lot of the cast did return for the 2016 film, including Aykroyd, Murray, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver. A cameo is not as much of a commitment as an entire film would be. Plus with Ramis no longer with us, isn't the time long gone for Ghostbusters 3?
