Get ready for some Elton John in your lives, as Paramount has announced a May 2019 release date for the Elton John biopic, Rocketman. The movie will show the story of the flamboyant singer, songwriter and composer and playing the leading man? It is none other than Kingsman's Taron Egerton, which we are not complaining about at all!
There have been some issues getting Rocketman off the ground, as the liftoff has been rocky. The movie was initially set to be made back in 2013, as Tom Hardy was set to star as Elton John. However, the biopic fell through during pre-production and would-be director Michael Gracey moved on to direct The Greatest Showman instead.
However, Rocketman was revived last year, as Egerton came on board to play Sir Elton instead and it's been going pretty smoothly ever since. The movie was green lit by Paramount back in April, as Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) wrote the script and Dexter Fletcher will be directing. Fletcher has another biopic under his belt as director, as he directed the Queen/Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. Now Paramount has put the movie on their schedule, as Rocketman is set to hit theaters on May 17, 2019.
That will be a big month for movies, as it will be the opening weekend for John Wick: Chapter 3 also. Avengers 4 is set to come out at the beginning of May 2019, as well as the live-action/CGI Detective Pikachu and Disney's own live-action take on Aladdin.
