George Clooney Tops Forbes Highest-Paid Actor List For 2018, But Didn't Even Star In A Movie

Forbes releases a list every year stating the highest-paid actors for the previous year. The numbers are based on pre-tax earnings from June 1, 2017 to June 1, 2018. For the first time ever, George Clooney is on top of that list with $239 million and he hasn't even made a movie since 2016 (Money Matters). So, how did he do it? Tequila, that is how!

For Clooney, most of those earnings come from the sale of his Casamigos Tequila company to British liquor giant Diageo. It was sold for $700 million up front and then upwards of $300 million to be paid out over the next 10 years. Clooney has an equal stake in the company with its two co-founders, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman, so Clooney pocketed $233 million from the sale. Add in an additional $6 million from "endorsements and older movies," so you get that $239 million total!

Coming in second on the list was Dwayne Johnson, who made $124 million, pre-tax income this past year. That is double the amount he made the year before and has set a record himself. The $124 million is the most any actor has made from front-of-camera roles in Celebrity 100 history for Forbes. That is huge, but no surprise it was Johnson who did it, as he seems to have a new movie come out every other weekend, right?
