Illumination has brought us the Minions, but it looks like they are wanting to bring back a familiar face this coming holiday season: The Grinch! Yes, it has been over 25 years since Chuck Jones gave us the holiday classic Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but that means something in the Hollywood business nowadays: time for a reboot! Check out Dr. Seuss' The Grinch trailer below.
Jim Carey will not be reprising his role as the voice of the Grinch, but it looks like Benedict Cumberbatch will be voicing the anti-hero. In the trailer, you hear him say, “Today we will do mean things, and we will do them in style.” During the clip, the Grinch is talking to his trusty dog Max.
The dialogue comes from the rhyming book, as the Grinch proceeds to do just that and more as the unsuspecting Whos prepare for Christmas. In the trailer, you see the green grouch is living in a cave on Mount Crumpet. The cave is rigged with different contraptions, which help him with his day-to-day needs. This works for the Grinch, as he only sees his neighbors in Who-ville when he runs out of food and has to go get more at the store.
Those trips to the store cause quite a commotion, as the Grinch is never too friendly with his neighbors. However, the Whos have declared that this Christmas is going to be three times bigger. The Grinch can't allow this to happen, as all he wants is some peace and quiet. To get that, he realizes he must steal Christmas! In Dr. Seuss' The Grinch, we see little nods to Jones' original. We will also see an update to "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," which Deadline said that Thurl Ravenscroft would likely approve. The film is directed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney and includes writer Michael LeSieur and Despicable Me/Minions producers Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy. Check out The Grinch trailer here:
