We have Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling joining forces for a movie together, as the Late Night trailer has debuted. It is a look into the late-night television world with Emma serving as the late-night host. It looks very good, so check out the Late Night trailer below!
As we see in the trailer, it looks like Emma's character is going into her final season as the host. Her numbers seem to be tanking and no one seems to care. She has a staff of male writers, who seem to care even less about the show's success. That is when Thompson hires a lone female writer (Mindy Kaling), as she is trying to smooth over some diversity concerns.
Besides starring in Late Night, Kaling also happened to write and produce the movie. Late Night premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in January and the audience seemed to have positive reviews. That is when Amazon purchased the distribution right to the movie for a reported $13 million.
In a previous interview with Good Morning America, Kaling said, “I’ve basically made my career by being like, I don’t wait around for people to write something for me or cast me in something because I don’t look like a lot of most actresses in Hollywood. So, I just thought, I love Emma Thompson, I want to see more of her, and I just wrote her this part in a movie…. I sent it to her thinking like, okay, well, I’ll never hear from her. And then she wrote me and was like, I love this, let’s do it — and so now we’re doing it.”
Late Night also stars John Lithgow, Hugh Dancy, Amy Ryan, and Veep‘s Reid Scott. Check out the Late Night trailer right here:
Late Night will premiere in theaters on June 7.Share:
