Melissa McCarthy is taking on a much darker role, as she will star in the adaptation of Lee Israel's memoir about her career as a literary forger. The movie is called Can You Ever Forgive Me? and the first trailer has recently been released.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? is directed by Marielle Heller from Diary of a Teenage Girl and has screenwriters Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty. McCarthy stars as Israel, who took to selling fake letters from literary giants when her career as a celebrity biographer fell apart.
This is a different kind of role for McCarthy, as she takes on the dramatic side of things in Can You Ever Forgive Me? We have all gotten used to her comedic roles in films like Bridesmaids, Spy, Tammy, Identity Thief and her upcoming movie, Life of the Party. This will be fun to see her take on a more serious role, even though I love her and her comedic skills.
