Influx Magazine is heading into the final big category of the night for the Oscars 2018, as it is time to look at the Best Director nominees for the 90th Annual Academy Awards. Of any of the categories, this one has a clear frontrunner. It seems like we might already know who will win, but you never know when it comes to the big night. So, who wins Best Director at the Oscars 2018?
For the nominees, we have Guillermo del Toro for The Shape of Water, Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk, Jordan Peele for Get Out, Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird and Paul Thomas Anderson for Phantom Thread. Of course, all of these movies are also nominated for Best Picture this year, so this is an intense race.
The clear favorite is Guillermo del Toro, who has already taken home quite a few trophies this awards season. His big win came at the Directors Guild of America Awards, where he won for Best Director. The DGA Awards have been in existence for 69 years now. Of those 69 years, the winner of the DGA Award has gone on to win the Oscar Award 61 times. Those are some good odds for del Toro, right?
Personally, I would love to see an upset in the mix. Jordan Peele did an amazing job with Get Out, so give him some praise. It is also great to see female representation in the category, so I will also be rooting for Greta Gerwig's name to be called that night!
