This week’s film is ALPS. It is directed by Greek director,Yorgos Lanthimos, and is his follow up feature from the Oscar nominated, DOGTOOTH. The film has been called bizarre, elliptical, morbidly funny and loopier than a frog sandwich.
The film is an example of the absurd, focusing on a bizarre cult like organization called Alps, whose members are paid by the family of deceased to “stand in” for their loved ones.
Lead actor, Aris Servetalis (Kinetta), plays the leader of the group and goes by the name, Mount Blanc. Alps other members include a nurse, played by Aggeliki Papoulia (Dogtooth), a young gymnast, Ariane Labed (Attenberg), and her sadistic coach played by Johnny Vekris.
