What movies made you a movie fan? Not necessarily the BEST movies you’ve ever seen. Not necessarily the ones critics told you were important. We’re talking about the movies you discovered at exactly the right moment—the ones that shaped your sense of humor, scared the hell out of you, blew your mind, or simply became part of who you are.

In Part 1 of MOVIES THAT MADE US, the full Winners, Losers & Lovers crew goes back to childhood and adolescence to pick the movies that helped build our individual movie DNA.

AIRPLANE! (1980) — Surely one of the funniest movies ever made… and don’t call us Shirley.

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS (2001) — Street racing, family, and the beginning of a franchise nobody could have imagined.

GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) — Comedy, horror, science fiction, Bill Murray, and one seriously angry Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD (1985) — Punk rock, zombies, BRAINS, and the movie that helped redefine what zombies could be.

JURASSIC PARK (1993) — The moment dinosaurs became real. THE BEASTMASTER (1982) — Swords, sorcery, animals and pure ’80s fantasy.

SPIDER-MAN (2002) — Sam Raimi helped prove superheroes could rule the big screen.

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (1986) — John Carpenter gave us one of the strangest, funniest and most endlessly rewatchable action movies of the ’80s.

Some are classics. Some are cult movies. Some are ridiculous. And some changed movies forever. But every one of them came along at exactly the right time.

These are the Movies That Made Us. Now we want yours: What movie from your childhood or adolescence had the biggest impact on you? And stay tuned for Part 2, because we’re only getting started.
